A new program will help a group of Indiana foster youth transition into college life.

About 50 students are moving into dorms at Purdue University Northwest this summer to gain helpful insight to financial literacy, math, English, skills building, healthy relationships and campus navigation.

“Those young people will be able to go on campus, live in the dorms, experience the summer session and earn college credit, so they are enmeshed into the college experience,” says Indiana Connected by 25 Vice-President of Operations Robb Schrimshaw. “They get experience living on their own, and managing their time, and they get support from staff on what to expect.”

While Indiana Connected By 25 is working with Purdue University Northwest, other support is being provided too.

“While campus support, the dorm and actual classes will take part on the Purdue Northwest campus, the local Ivy Tech community college has also been recruited to provide professors and staff to assist as well,” Schrimshaw says.

This program, which is the first of its kind in the state, also provides ongoing, on-campus financial and academic support throughout freshman year.http://www.fostersuccess.org/
