Fostering Higher Education

A new partnership for Lake and Marion County, Ind. students

Fostering Higher Education (FHE) is a college readiness program presented by Foster Success, Inc. in conjunction with Washington State University.  This program is designed to help guide foster youth as they begin their transition from high school into college.

FHE will provide:

  • Individualized one on one advising sessions with an Education Advocate
  • Guided programming designed to aid in the transition and acclimation into higher education
  • Steps to identify and address barriers that can, and often, impede higher education success

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Lake County (IN) or Marion County (IN)
  • Must have a sincere interest in pursuing higher education
  • Must be a rising high school senior (completing junior year), GED graduate, or high school graduate interested in higher education but not yet pursuing post-secondary ed
  • Must be recommended by their caseworker

Time commitment for program participation:

  • Two years
  • Monthly one on one meetings; the first two month’s meetings will take place twice a month, then once a month for the remainder of the program
  • Occasional group activities (TBD), COVID permissible 

Time commitment for survey only participation:

  • Two years
  • Survey completion once every few months
