What is LEAD Ambassador?
LEAD Ambassadors are young people with lived experience in foster care committed to improving the lives of their peers who are experiencing or have experienced foster care through advocacy, education, and leadership opportunities.
LEAD Ambassadors have proven skills and receive ongoing training to ensure they are strong advocates and public speakers.
Requirements & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Advocate for the well-being of youth who have experienced foster care
- Serve as a role model and support to members of the foster care community
- Adhere to all expectations outlined in the Ambassador MOU and Foster Success Care Code of Conduct
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of engagement in programs with Foster Success
- Participation in at least two Foster Success programs in two different Impact Areas
- Participation as a youth consult with Foster Success
How do I become a LEAD Ambassador?
- Talk with a current Foster Success team member about the nomination process
- Demonstrate a commitment to issues and activities surrounding teens and young adults who have experienced foster care through active engagement in programs and/or advisory boards. This may include: Current or former IYAB leaders or NYTD ambassadors, leadership roles and/or engagement with school or community organizations, AND/OR related work or internship experiences
- Be at least 18 years of age (due to travel in and outside the state)
- Work with a Foster Success team member to complete the application process
What are the benefits of being a LEAD Ambassador?
Ambassadors have a unique opportunity to grow with their peers and to serve as a resource for aspiring leaders. Specific opportunites may include:
- Engage with community membes, policymakers, and stakeholders
- Connect with peers through ongoing program opportunities
- Learn how local, state, and federal government works
- Have an ongoing outlet for staying up to date on state & national policies that affect those with foster care experience
- Join on-going networking opportunities with community leaders and elected officials
- Participate in paid work experiences with Foster Success including: hiring, co-facilitation of programs, public speaking opportunities, meetings with policy makers
- Attend the annual Day at the Statehouse immersive learning experience
